Playa Conchal

Posted on June 10, 2024 by Analyst

Playa Conchal is one of those beaches you hear a lot about. Some say its one of the best in the world, but not matter who you ask, its a bucket list item when in Costa Rica. Beaches here are always supposed to be publicly accessible just like Mexico. Sometimes the definition of accessible is not so straight forward. Conchal is one such place. Direct access does not exist due to a resort, but the beach is still publicly available. Consider it a two for one beach experience. Enter Brasilito.

Public access can be had from Brasilito which itself has a nice long beach. The downside is a 15 to 20 minute walk. Likely 20 as you need to bring your cooler and chairs.

Parking next to this beach isn’t a problem but the locals will charge to “watch” your car. This is the easiest option and price can be negotiated if your so inclined.

Brasilito remains pretty much empty while everyone makes the trek to Conchal. Sometimes carts are for hire if your bringing a lot of gear and there were horse rides back and forth. This long beach seems like another great place to hang out but maybe there is reason people don’t. In between the two areas is a pathway with vendors. Beach chairs, beds, and tents are available for rent and there are food and drink vendors along with some souvenirs. This is the only beach where we were approached regularly to purchase things but a simple no thanks was all that was required.

It was easy enough to find some shaded areas to hang out away from direct sun to enjoy a favorite drink or two.

Cup o Conchal

This beach is made up entirely of small pieces of shell, hence the name. It wasn’t as hard on the feet as I imaged it might be and the water was beautiful. The waves are relatively calm and its a long beach with plenty of room to spread out.

This one is worth checking out at least once during your tour of Costa Rica.
