Washroom

Sometimes bad is bad.

The following is a picture taken at a Wendy’s.

Wendy's washrooms

Notice the two options they present.  The only noticeable difference is accessibility and an occupied indication.  So what’s the harm?

Imagine you sent your young child to the washroom. Quite likely they would not think to lock the door. In the meantime a man comes along looking use the facilities and finding it open just comes in to the horror of parents and child alike.   Would that have ever been an issue before?

Something that wasn’t possible is suddenly a concern because a natural separation no longer exists.  A society priding itself on being superior succumbs to foolishness.  Not long ago we protected children and now we expose them deliberately.

We used to offer the same protection for ladies too but this same scenario can also present as an a problem for them.  strangely enough, we do not even consider the health and cleanliness issues from such shared usage despite the crazy amounts of clean scare seen in recent times over a common virus.

These types of behaviors seem to offer clues as to how previous societies failed and disappeared. The magnitude of thoughtlessness and stupidity increases until that society destroys itself and it seems we are hell bent on doing the same.

Power Monitoring

If you don't mind giving away your data, there are many home monitoring solutions. None seem to offer the features of the old TED or recently departed IoTawatt. Too bad the useful ones disappear.
