A government spending 3 million on international film and music festival attendance is considering carbon taxing the general public’s flights. That very same government leader is in the top 11 for largest carbon footprint by air travel and likely one of the top spenders on in flight meals, one of which was $223,000 in a single Ino-Pacific trip. In only 6 months the 2023 spending for government travel was more than $43,000 per person working out to 14.5 million.

If it seems hypocritical for high ranking consuming parties to be looking at dictating the habits of the rest it may be due to this glaring and extreme difference typically reserved for communist countries. A more noble approach would be to examine and reduce one’s own contributions in a similar manor to the expectations bestowed on others. But since the money comes only from the later party in either case, the former continues with practices like spending a million on clowns and concerts.
