One Verse at a Time
Most have heard something about the end times mentioned in the Bible. Movies, musical references, and books have all come about based on it. One the most familiar passages reads like a description of things today:
2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power.
2 Timothy 3
Certain sounds like today, but lets focus on “disobedient to parents”. Kids scolding parents in public and at home has somehow become normal. Disobedience includes a general disrespect which has not only become more common but justified in the minds of many. Psychology promotes the idea while teachers and society condone it. It’s the child’s right, they say. Parental authority is undermined in the school demonstrating this lack of respect and general disobedience.
Jesus said in Matthew 10, “children will rise against parents” “And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household”. This is exactly how this disobedient and disrespectful attitude is manifesting itself. Ephesians 6 states “1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), 3 “that it may go well with you and that
you may live long in the land.” The promise of a long life is given here and is the only command that carries a something like this. It remains of interest that a the children rise against the parents a person’s enemies will those of his own. Is that not what is seen especially with the high rates of separation and divorce?
These principles which at one time were common, are no longer and the children do indeed rise against parents. Psychology has made the excuses easy and promoted the child over the parent in most situations. The end remains the same as it has always been. With the plenty of ominous and historical examples of these truths playing out, one can only wonder. Are those still engaging in this type of behaviour done shortening their own lives yet?
