iPhone Battery Replacement

Is It Really Necessary?

Posted on October 25, 2024 by Analyst

Sometimes companies go just a little too far in the name of protecting their own interests. Take the iPhone for example. Although you purchased the phone and should have choice in the replacement parts used, Apple want’s to remind you of your alternative choice.

Now it may be acceptable to do so once or perhaps even twice, but a regular reminder that the battery was changed with one Apple didn’t explicitly endorse is, well, insane. If you don’t use their brand or move the “chip” to the new battery, Apple will remind you quite regularly that the battery isn’t theirs.

So is it really necessary to put this on the screen every few days? It serves no purpose except as nag and a dig against using alternative parts. As if I don’t know the battery was changed and perhaps I just don’t care. There should be a choice in the matter and these nag screens should be able to be disabled without having to jump through hardware hoops like moving the battery chip which is risky at best.

Maybe the Apple CEO should have a nag screen on the fridge door or their posh vehicle screen telling them how useless and annoying this is. After all, your car doesn’t care which brand of parts you use nor does your furnace, stove, fridge, or any other product you purchased outright.

If you don't mind giving away your data, there are many home monitoring solutions. None seem to offer the features of the old TED or recently departed IoTawatt. Too bad the useful ones disappear.
