Imagine having a car only to discover none of the electronics work because you parked it in a garage and the temperature went below freezing. Not exactly a concern anyone has. It ranks up there with concerns over a radio, phone, TV, or any other consumer electronics not working because of cold storage. Not something any of us really pay attention to because it just isn’t a problem. If it were, none of us would be able to fly in a plane, enjoy electricity or communications services which are constantly exposed to a wide range of temperatures. Our consumer electronics are often shipped in unheated containers and never experience problems yet for some reason, LG managed to produce an expensive entertainment system that when exposed to cold storage simply fails to turn on ever again.

Meet the LG OK75. This 1000 Watt entertainment system with Karaoke and DJ Effects becomes a $1000 dollar paper weight after cold storage. It goes from normal operation to not being able to be powered on at all. No lights, no sounds, no nothing. Just dead. That was my experience on a unit with barely any usage which was stored temporarily in a garage and exposed to the cold. It was given 4 days in normal room temperature before being plugged in yet it never worked again. The unit had some age on it, but in terms of usage it wasn’t even really broken in. To say age is a factor is a bit silly – I still run a 40+ year old Atari computer and many others do the same without issue. Almost all solid state electronics with age work fine with the exception of an occasional potentiometer or some lights glitching. It seems to me this thing LG made should have been able to cope with a few years of sitting around not being used much and it certainly should not have had issues with cold storage either.
LG didn’t do better with their customer service. I provided details and expressed my disgust and disappointment in their product expecting they would either repair or replace it with something equivalent to save face. Instead they offered an insult. 15% off another purchase of the same type of junk – barely enough to cover taxes! No repair, no replacement, not even 50% off! They were not even willing to put anything towards a new purchase – just the taxes. They could have at least offered a deep discount to cover better than half the cost of a new item or even refunded half the cost. Instead they chose to offer an insulting taxes off your next purchase and only of the same type of thing. Pathetic.
