Not a day goes by without some new announcement on where AI is heading. A recent statement suggests 80 years of investigative research can now be done in 30 hours with it. Complex equations, programming, and analysis have all benefited. Doctors are admitting using AI for symptom analysis while accounting and marketing jobs are also being handled by it. Tasks people would take many hours to complete are suddenly being done in minutes. Complex legal advice and behavioral analysis tasks can easily be done using AI.
Suddenly many high level professionals are no longer required. With 61% of US firms planning to use AI within the year to automate tasks, this trend will only continue. Qualcomm, Udemy, Amperity, Cisco, Mircrosoft, Nori, and Apple are just some of the recent ones to downsize. On the one hand, higher paying jobs in most areas are shrinking while the squeeze is on for regular service sector work as well. Mass immigration has put the demand for the latter type higher than ever leaving only labor jobs. Many are not willing or able to do those resulting in employment opportunities.
Between AI and mass immigration it appears society is in for a double whammy. Employment on either end of the spectrum will dry up at an alarming rate leaving many in a lurch. People have always adapted, but the rapid rate at which both of these factors are driving the economy may not be sustainable for very long. Is this how the implementation of own nothing and be happy comes about?
